Krishnaswamy's own son Vishnu Prasad, who heads the Youth Congress unit in the state. Prasad, according to sources, plans to embark on an active political career by entering the state assembly.

The son of Congress leader and central minister E.V.K.S. Elangovan, Thirumagan E.V.R., married to DMK chief M. Karunanidhi's granddaughter and M.K. Stalin's daughter Senthamarai, is a strong contender.

Union finance minister P. Chidambaram's son Karthi has already expressed his desire to contest the Sivaganga constituency.

Mani Tagore, nephew of Sudarshan Nachiappan - the man who defeated Chidambaram in the 1999 parliamentary elections when he was in the Tamil Manila Congress and gave up his seat in 2004 to him, is also interested in the ticket.

Era Anbarasu, who had hoped to become the TNCC president, Vasanthkumar, brother of former TNCC chief Kumari Ananthan, and K.V. Thangkabalu, another former TNCC chief, too will ask for the ticket to their supporters.

Former Congressman Karate Thyagarajan, a former deputy mayor of Chennai who has been expelled from the AIADMK, too has been knocking on the Congress doors for several months and is a great supporter of DMK leader M.K. Stalin, who will have the main say in selecting the candidates.

Krishnaswamy has also to appease the Vanniyar community from which he hails.

Krishnaswamy will have to keep the PMK's interest too in mind since he is father-in-law of central minister Anbumai Ramadoss of the PMK, which is an ally of the Congress in the DMK-led front.
