Sidhu found guilty of culpable homicide

Sidhu found guilty of culpable homicide: "Former cricketer and BJP Member of Parliament Navjot Singh Sidhu was on Thursday found guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The quantum of the punishment will be decided on Wednesday.

The BJP has accepted Sidhu's resignation and he is planning to move the Supreme Court to challenge the verdict. Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, however, has not accepted Sidhu's resignation from the House because it is not as per the rules.

The district and sessions judge at Patiala had on September 22, 1999 acquitted Sidhu in a case registered under Section 304 and 34 IPC. Sidhu has been convicted for causing the death of a Gurnam Singh on December 27, 1988. Gurnam was beaten up by Sidhu and his associates in a dispute over the parking of vehicles outside the State Bank of Patiala there."
