siliconindia: "'The newspaper published on April 10 an article that attacked Deveshwar for suggesting that IIM Calcutta should accept the federal government's proposal to sharply reduce fees. Yogi Deveshwar's acceptance of the fee cuts for IIM Calcutta was true to form. After all, the ITC chairman has always been counted on the side of the powers-that-be,' said The Telegraph story, headlined 'Smoke gets in his Eyes.'
Human Resource Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi, in February, had asked the six IIMs to bring down their fee to Rs.30,000 from the present Rs.125,000 for the two-year course.
"If he (Deveshwar) was close to Madhavrao Scindia and Ghulam Nabi Azad when the Congress was in power in the early Nineties, he is today close to the likes of Joshi and Pramod Mahajan in the Bharatiya Janata Party. "Joshi, in fact, had picked him to head the IIM-Calcutta board...," the Telegraph story read. "
