A Governor Resigns in Disgrace

The New York Times > Opinion: "The state's three-term governor, John Rowland, enjoyed being called the boy wonder of the Republican Party -- clearly a politician to watch. The voters apparently failed to watch in the right way. Mr. Rowland wound up facing both an impeachment inquiry at home and a federal political corruption investigation. Yesterday, he announced his resignation.

The former mayor of Bridgeport is now in jail on corruption charges. The former mayor of Waterbury was imprisoned after being charged in a grisly child sex case. Members of Mr. Rowland's administration have fallen fast and furious, and the allegations in the current impeachment case included everything from state contracts for sale to questions about the financing of "Marvelous Max, the Mansion Mouse," a children's book by the governor's wife."
