The Hindu: "Picking up threads from where he left six years ago, Nagesh has decided to revisit the lives of Ashwini and Varun, who are now 'happily'' married and so Hyderabad Blues 2 is all set for release this coming Friday, July 2. Interestingly, the team is also going to be releasing a dictionary on Hyderabad lingo soon."
Kukunoor plans Hyderabad Blues sequel - Mid-Day: "The story of a group of friends Varun, Sanjiv, Harish, Seema and Ashwini in their late 20s captured the imagination of the youth when it released in July 1998. While Hyderabad Blues was made on a budget of Rs 15 lakh, Hyderabad Blues 2 will have a budget closer to Rs 1 crore.
“At different points I have wanted to return to the magic of the first film. With a sequel you can recapture the magic or you run the risk of ruining what you did well the first time. I had been writing dark scripts for a while — 3 Deewarein, Tandoor, Turn — and I wanted to see if I could go back to humour. That’s when Hyderabad Blues came screaming back at me. After a dramatic movie, I just wanted to have some fun.” "
