BY CHUCK McCUTCHEON - Newhouse A1: "Four years ago, 11 percent of Democrats and 8 percent of Republicans crossed party lines in the election, according to a CNN exit poll. A recent Pew Research Center for People & the Press poll showed 5 percent of Democrats supporting Bush, while 4 percent of Republicans backed Kerry.
"Almost nobody who voted for (Democrat) Al Gore in 2000 is going to vote Republican," Gans said. "But there are Republicans who voted for Bush who are going to go Democratic or stay home. None of that is reflected yet in polling." Bugay has created a Web site, www.republicansforkerry.org, one of several grass-roots GOP efforts dedicated to helping the Democratic nominee. "
