"Colors that are used in the printing process are called subtractive colors. Cyan, magenta, yellow and black are subtractive colors. According to color theory, when cyan, magenta and yellow are mixed together in equal amounts and at maximum intensity, the resultant color is black. Because of printing process limitations and variations in printing ink quality, some black ink must also be added. The subtractive colors are often denoted by the initials CMYK, which represent cyan, magenta, yellow and black, respectively.
Red, green and blue are considered to be additive colors; additive colors, when mixed in equal amounts and at maximum intensity, combine to create white. These colors are also referred to as RGB color. RGB color is used to display color on computer monitors. Therefore, the color combination of cyan, blue, red and yellow consists of both additive and subtractive colors. The color combination of yellow, red and green also consists of both additive and subtractive colors."
