Prince Charles defends his views on education

Britain-Prince Charles: "Charles wrote in the memo that "people think they can all be pop stars, high court judges, brilliant TV personalities or infinitely more competent heads of state without ever putting in the necessary work or having natural ability." Prince Charles, who was lambasted by the media and a government lawmaker for a memo in which he derided people who aspire to lofty goals beyond their natural talent, said on Sunday that he had been misinterpreted.

The comments earned him a rare public rebuke from a senior government minister, Education Secretary Charles Clarke, and gasps of disbelief from the British media, with many commentators suggesting the prince believed that "people should not try to rise above their station." While he claimed his views on education have been misrepresented, Charles defended his "old-fashioned" values in the speech."
