Chosen for film fest

The Hindu : Entertainment / Cinema : Chosen for film fest: "ANAND ALAGAPPAN'S five-minute short film, "No Exit," is being screened at the South Asian International Film Festival, held in New York, from December 1 to 5. After it was selected for screening at World Cinema Naples, Florida, in April, and for the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival, in September, "No Exit" now reaches New York. The film encapsulates the maker's skill in building up a suspense filled short in a matter of minutes.

Highlighting the fast-paced, hi-tech lifestyle of our folks settled in the U. S., "No Exit" is all about the enticing offers that come one's way at the touch of a tinkle. A girl calls up the Credit Card Service to check out the balance in her account. The call offers her various options and menus and each leads to funny promos of various items. What initially begins as a casual game soon turns into an unstoppable cacophony that scares her.

As the voices refuse to be silenced she is at her wits' end and screams aloud. Only then does she realise that it has all been a dream. But reality is not far away. As you get involved in the haunting promos that go on and on at a feverish pace and wait for more to be unravelled, "No Exit" ends. Anand succeeds in making the viewer feel that "No Exit" could have been extended further. Well-known wild life cinematographer Alphonse Roy has captured this crisp depiction on celluloid. "
