rediff.com US edition: Vote for new list of 7 wonders begins: "Among other contenders are the Great Wall of China, Lhasa's Potala Palace, the Old City of Sana'a (Yemen), Timbuktu (Mali), Hagia Sophia (Turkey), the Leaning Tower of Pisa (Italy), Doges's Palace (Italy), Aachen Cathedral (Germany), the Eiffel Tower (Paris), the Statue of Liberty (New York), Alhambra Palace (Spain), Versailles Palace and Park (France), the statues on Easter Island (Chile), the Kremlin and Red Square (Russia) and the Mayan pyramids (Mexico).

Also added by popular demand are the Church of La Sagrada Familia in Spain, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, the Empire State Building in New York, Machu Picchu in Peru and Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

The project is the work of Bernard Weber, who has had a varied career as a filmmaker, museum curator, aviator and explorer. Fluent in five languages, the Swiss-born Weber has spent most of his life travelling the world and experiencing the rare sense of adventure that comes from meeting different cultures. "
