The Hindu : Life Chennai : Idhu Rajapattai Alla: "At a function commemorating the release of a book written by actor Sivakumar, a question on his acting abilities generated a healthy debate. There was appreciation for the veteran actor for having lead a disciplined family life, despite the glitz and glamour surrounding him. Director K. Balachander released the book `Idhu Rajapattai Alla' (Alliance publishers).
Another speaker Thamizharuvi Manian too praised Sivakumar for having maintained grace and dignity during his career. Veteran actress Manorama appreciated the section of the book dedicated to his mother. The comic moments were from poet Vaali and actor-journalist Cho Ramaswamy, both of who felt that Sivakumar did not get sufficient opportunities to showcase his talent.
Towards the end of the function, Surya joined Sivakuamar on the stage. When many in the audience sought Surya's response, he came up with the obvious answer. He felt he would never reach anywhere near his father's histrionic abilities. "I am only a couple of films old," he said. Young director Bala, however, felt Surya was a better artist because he had a different style."
