Can You Be Indentified By Your Typing Style

Line56.com: Solving Security's Weak Link: "One way out is offered by niche security specialist BioPassword, which recently licensed technology from Louisiana Tech in order to bolster its solution, one that substitutes the detection of typing style for conventional character-based password entry.

Typing style, which consists of factors like speed, rhythm, and how long users depress keys, is something that, sampled over enough keystrokes, is a unique signature, according to BioPassword.

This is an interesting approach because it takes advantage of existing universal interfaces (that is keyboard) while relying on context, which is almost impossible to duplicate. Even if an intruder used spyware to capture every keystroke of a targeted user's password, they wouldn't be able to duplicate the typing signature needed to afford entry into the system.

BioPassword has been around for a while, but it hopes to ride some of the publicity arising from the recent licensing deal with Louisiana Tech to get some more market awareness that it might well win in a world scrambling for relief from computer security violations."
