NCM seeks Minister's intervention

The Hindu : Front Page : Film:: "The National Commission for Minorities today urged the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, S. Jaipal Reddy, to delay the release of the controversial film, Sins, till the concerns of the Christian community — which is objecting to certain portions of it — are addressed.

With similar complaints being sent to the Commission against many serials and films by other minority communities, the NCM has decided to meet the Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The NCM, he said, had organised a similar meeting with the then Chairperson of CBFC three years ago and secured an assurance that portions which offended the sentiments of different communities would be deleted.

Catholics in Mumbai have over the past week raised objections to film-maker Vinod Pande's `attempt' to "sensationalise the so-called fictional sexual escapades of a priest" in Sins, due for release on Friday. Their contention was that the portrayal of an ordained priest in such light would hurt the sentiments of Christians."
