musings from 4 guys from jce: "Sania Mirza, in an interview with Shekhar Gupta of Indian Express on NDTV 24X7, said that she was not going to pose in a bikini because her religion would not allow her. She also says that she knows her Indian culture and she is a five times praying devout muslim. So, after all, Shobha De's apprehensions were ill-founded. Sania will never be another Anna Kournikova. However, Anna was world no. 4 at one time, so Sania has lot to do to become Anna, the player.
Anyway, I'll always have problems with people openly stating their Indian identity and their religious identity something as the two sides of a same coin. Indian identity will never be compatible with your religious identity. Only secular identity can live in harmony with Indian identity. Secular identity might not have any problems with people having beliefs , spiritual or otherwise. But it loses its shine if people find it necessary to sport outward symbols of their religious beliefs. "
