WIRING ETHIOPIA

Ethiopia announced plans to wire the entire country for Internet access by 2008 in an effort to fight the poverty that afflicts most of its population of 70 million. Ethiopia has 30,000 Internet connections, but intends to expand that to more than 500,000 in the next six months. In the first stage, 450 of the country's schools and all of its hospitals are to be connected to
the Internet. (AFP)
