Chhattisgarh (umariya) to probe 'stripping' of schoolgirls

Newindpress.com: "Chhattisgarh's education department has promised to probe the incident of 35 schoolgirls who were allegedly made to strip as part of "surprise inspections" during their board exams last month.

"It's hard to believe that officers could resort to such measures. I'll collect details and inquire into the incident. A decision will be made based on the findings," Education Minister Rajesh Munat told IANS.

The village committee of Umaria village in Korba, 220 km from here, has already set up a special team to probe the complaint March 8.

According to allegations, the girls attending their Class 10 social science paper were taken to a separate room and asked to strip by the education department's flying squad.

The "search" lasted for almost an hour and only after that were they were allowed to sit for the exam, Jagdish Yadav, a member of the village council, told IANS.

"The panchayat is not opposing to the squad's bid to stop cheating and copying. But they have no right to strip the girls," he maintained."
