Sonia re-elected Cong President

NDTV: "Sonia Gandhi was today re-elected the Congress President for the third term. The election may have been a foregone conclusion, but the Congress didn't lose the chance to turn the event into a grand party. Party workers jostled with each other to display their badge of loyalty.

Though Sonia Gandhi has on several occasions asked the party to keep things simple, this was anything but a low-key affair. From the hiring of elephants, horse carriages and musical bands to fireworks, celebration seemed to be the buzzword.

"Today is an occasion to celebrate. We are celebrating from our heart, we will do anything for Soniaji even if it means cutting our own pockets," a worker said.

In her acceptance speech, Sonia Gandhi said there were still many challenges ahead for the party. "We should not sit down satisfied, we have to become more active than before. I want to assure you that I will work with you day and night to make the Congress stronger," she said. She also thanked party workers for the "support and cooperation" they extended to her "from the very beginning"."
