Vidya Balan - PARINEETA

Stardust.co.in ::: Curtain Raiser - PARINEETA: "“I should have been born in 1970s,” feels Vidya

Vidya’s first attempt at greasepaint was with Ekta Kapoor’s popular serial ‘Hum Paanch’. (She played Radhika). After that, she appeared in nearly 50 ad films and finally in the Euphoria music video, directed by Pradeep Sarkar. “There was a great understanding between Dada and me, and the entire team was amicable and nice to work with. I did three other videos with the same team, but the idea of making a film never came into his mind.” Vidya also admits that Pradeep and his team are just like her second family. “Frankly, I never thought that this association would fetch me a mega film and launch me as a film actress.” But as a debut launch, didn’t she feel that playing a 1960s character might typecast her into such sari-clad roles? “Not really,” she chirps. “I wanted to do this film for two reasons. One, I admire most of the actors from the late 60s and early 70s. I think they bagged the meatiest roles. The costumes and hairstyles always fascinated me. I think I should have been born in the 1970s. The second reason was the Bengali milieu. Though I am South Indian by birth, I feel I’m deeply connected to their culture and tradition,” she adds. "
