NDTV: "The 7th Osian Cinefan film festival ended last evening with the screening of National Award-winning director Buddhadeb Dasgupta's Kaalpurush. The film stars Rahul Bose, Mithun Chakravorthy and Sameera Reddy. It is all set for its North American premiere at the Toronto film festival as part of the Master Series. The story of a father and son, and their thirst for life and unspoken words between them form the narrative of Kaalpurush.
Adapted from his novel America America, the movie focuses on human relations like Dasgupta's previous ventures, and is depicted through a series of surreal sequences. Actor Rahul Bose, who is known for being selective with his roles, says he was drawn to the character Sumonto that he plays in the film. Sameera Reddy plays the role of Supriya, Sumonto's ambitious wife, which is a far cry from her commercial ventures.
First-time director Jahar Kanungo's film Nishabd won the prize in the Indian competition. There was also a special jury prize for Shoojit Sircar's Yahaan, a love story between an Army officer and a local Kashmiri girl. Indonesian film, Of Love and Eggs, bagged the Best Film award in the Asian competition. Iranian film Tear of the Cold received a special critics' award."
