"Tsunami Evangelism" in Tamil Nadu

VivekaJyoti: "Tsunami Evangelism" in Tamil Nadu: "The Vishwanatha Swamy Temple at Melavanchur near Nagapattinam registered a police complaint to prevent an NGO from setting up a relief camp on land owned by it. The temple is managed by the Kanchi Math. K. Sivasankaran, power agent of the temple, in a complaint to the Nagore police on January 19, stated that the Human Rights Forum for Dalit Liberation was illegally setting up camps on a four-acre vacant site owned by the temple and sought the eviction of the NGO. “I had asked them for a written request, which was given to me only on Jan 24. I forwarded it to the Sankaracharya. If permission is given by him, I have no objections.” Sivasankaran claimed he had no authority to offer the land to anyone for any purpose. “We should respect the private parties while asking for their land and the administration cannot force anyone” said the Nagapattinam district collector J. Radhakrishnan."
