NDTV.com - News on Encephalitis death toll rises to 100: "The number of dead due to the brain fever or Japanese encephalitis outbreak in eastern Uttar Pradesh has risen to 100.
Most of the dead in Gorakhpur are children and more than 200 persons are in hospital, many of them in a critical condition. Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeshwar visited the affected district on Thursday and ordered a vaccination campaign to curb spread of the disease.
Pigs are believed to be the main carriers of the encephalitis virus, which is transmitted to humans through mosquito bites. The people have been advised to use mosquito nets and to take other measures to destroy the parasites."
