Remakes become Bollywood's favoured choice

NDTV: "Imitation, they say, is the best form of flattery and Bollywood certainly seems to believe in that idiom with remakes of old blockbusters being the flavour of the season.

Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar was perhaps the first step in that direction. Many said it was the director's tribute to Francis Ford Coppola's original masterpiece The Godfather and it worked. Now Varma wants to take the father and son duo and recast perhaps India's most famous film Sholay. While Amitabh will be Gabber Singh, Abhishek will play Dharmendra's character Veeru.

Many other successful directors are also trying their hand at a remake. Farhan Akhtar wants to do a new version of Don with Shahrukh and David Dhawan is working on a remake of Amar Akbar Anthony."
