ORANGE GUNS

Ulster Defence Association: strongholds across Belfast and Lisburn. Began as a volunteer defence group, declared illegal 1992. Uses title Ulster Freedom Fighters when carrying out terrorist attacks. Estimated 3000 members.



Ulster Volunteer Force: founded late 1960s and borrowing name of the organisation established to oppose Home Rule. 2000 members.

Red Hand Commando: shadowy group linked with the UVF. 200-500 members.

Loyalist Volunteer Force: breakaway group set up by former UVF Mid-Ulster commander. UVF and LVF engaged in a feud which has claimed four lives over the summer. 200 members.
