Newindpress - Assembly Polls 2006: "Now, it is the turn of Vijay Fans’ Club youth wing president to hog the political limelight by filing nomination to contest the May 8 Assembly elections from Coimbatore West Assembly segment as an Independent candidate.
Yuvaraj (33), who resigned his ward councillor’s post in Vadavalli town panchayat to contest the election, says,”I will work for the welfare of the masses. But making Coimbatore the second headquarter of the State is dear to me”.
An ardent fan of Vijay for the past 13 years, Yuvaraj has received the permission and blessings of the star for contesting the polls. Since the actor was busy shooting, Yuvaraj could only meet Chandrasekhar, Vijay’s father. While giving his nod to Yuvaraj to contest the polls, Chandrasekhar asked him not to use either the banner of the fan club or the photo of Vijay for campaigning.
As a functionary of the fan’s club, Yuvaraj says he has done a lot of social service and claims to have been well- known among the public. “As a councillor also I am popular among the residents of my ward,” he says. He also claims that he introduced the clearance of garbage on a daily basis by engaging carts in Vadavalli panchayat.
This Vijay fan is planning to undertake door-to-door campaign and seek the support of all fan clubs barring that of Vijaykanth."
