The Female Thing, debated. - By Laura Kipnis and Daphne Merkin - Slate Magazine
All I've read in the wake of Sontag's death—with the exception of the strange and, to my mind, insufficiently self-aware piece by Terry Castle in the London Review of Books—are paeans to her.Laura Kipnis is a professor at Northwestern and the author of The Female Thing: Dirt, Sex, Envy, Vulnerability. Her previous book was Against Love: A Polemic.
Daphne Merkin is the author of a novel, Enchantment, and a collection of essays, Dreaming of Hitler.
