INDIA: Govt. opposes to increase cotton purchase price - Textile - Cotton News - Textile News: "The increase in purchase price of cotton demanded by farmers of the Vidarbha region has been ruled out by the Maharashtra government, Deputy Chief Minister, R.R. Patil informed here on December 10.
He clarified that in the situation when prices in the world market are Rs.1,800 per quintal, cotton growers from all over the world will bring their produce to the state as local growers have demanded the price be raised from Rs.1,900 to Rs.2,700 per quintal.
Further, cotton growers were also angry at the slow pace of procurement of a huge off-take of cotton by inadequate staff and stocking facility.
On the other hand procurement process, until now which was delayed, quickened on 10th December with 10,000 quintals of the farmers' produce purchased during the day.
However, the negative reply of the minister about the cotton price is being viewed as a foil to avoid a breach of protocol by making a major policy statement outside the legislature when it is in session."
