'Aviator' and 'Sideways' Earn Golden Globes

The New York Times > Movies: ""The Aviator," Martin Scorsese's three-hour journey through the life of the daring, charismatic but also phobic magnate Howard Hughes, won for best motion picture drama. Its star, Leonardo DiCaprio, won best actor in a drama for his portrayal of Hughes.

'Sideways,' the director Alexander Payne's tale of an ornery oenophile traveling through California wine country with his best friend, won best picture in the musical or comedy category. Mr. Payne won the Globe for best screenplay with his writing partner, Jim Taylor.

ABC's sexy soap opera "Desperate Housewives" won best comedy television series. "Nip/Tuck," the envelope-pushing drama about plastic surgery on FX, took the Golden Globe for best dramatic series on television.

Mariska Hargitay won best actress in a television series for her longstanding role in "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." Anjelica Huston took the Golden Globe for best supporting actress in a television series or mini-series, for her performance in the suffragist-era HBO film "Iron Jawed Angels."

Best actor in a television comedy series went to Jason Bateman for playing the son in a dysfunctional family on the quirky, acclaimed Fox show "Arrested Development." William Shatner, the former "Star Trek" star, won best supporting actor in a television series for his interpretation of the unpredictable lawyer Denny Crane on ABC's "Boston Legal."

Geoffrey Rush won best actor in a television mini-series or film for his portrayal of the dark genius of Peter Sellers in the HBO film "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers." That movie also won for best mini-series or film made for television."
