Aung San Suu Kyi still under house arrest

washington times - (United Press International): " The Myanmar government has extended for a third time the house arrest of Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, the BBC said Monday. Aung was arrested after her supporters clashed with pro-government forces in May 2003. After several months in prison, she was allowed to return home, but has since been confined there.

Aung's party won a landslide victory in the 1990 elections, but the nation has been governed by the military since 1962. She is among an estimated 1,300 political prisoners and detainees in Myanmar, which was formerly known as Burma, the BBC said."
