Juppéresigns as mayor of Bordeaux
FT.com / World / Europe: "Alain Juppé, the former French prime minister, yesterday resigned as mayor of Bordeaux after a Versailles appeals court upheld his conviction for using public money to finance his political party. But the close ally of President Jacques Chirac left open the possibility of returning to politics once he had completed a one-year ban from holding public office. Mr Juppé had already resigned from parliament and from the presidency of the ruling UMP party."
