Amjad plays sarod in South Indian style

Music India OnLine: "In a rare performance, Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan enthralled a packed house here with a south Indian style sarod recital to pay a homage to the doyen of Carnatic music MS Subbulakshmi. Giving an opening performance at the famous three-day Dover Lane music conference here last evening Khan for the first time played sarod, a north Indian instrument, with south Indian accompaniments like Mirdangam and Ghatam.

Talking to PTI Ustad Amjad Ali Khan said that today's performance was a homage to three greats of Indian classical music, MS Subbulakshmi, AT Kannan and Utsad Vilayat Khan, all of whom died in 2004. He said he had a very special relations with Subbulakshmi as his wife has been named after the legend of the carnatic music, who died last month."
