A Report on Current Relief Efforts from Andhra Pradesh

a) Distribution of rice to impacted families who are still in relief camps
in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu coastal areas. The 10KG bags will display
India Network Foundation name and will clearly identify as donation and
Not for Sale. These will be directly distributed to people in relief camps
and identified by authorities as legitimate suffers of the Tsunami. The
distribution will be complete in AP by Jan 24 or Jan 25.

b) INF will help with fishermen with Rs. 4000 grants so that they could
obtain govt grant of Rs. 12000 to receive new boats

c) INF will donate Nylon thread material to help repair the nets

d) INF will also have renovate schools impacted by Tsunami with teaching
aids, Godrej record keeping safes and other material as requested by
teachers in the area. These are some of the villages that India Network
Relief will be distributed: 1) Pedmylavanilania. Ahinamyulavalilalka,
Biyyaputippa, Vemuladeevi of Narasapur and Mogaltuur mandals in AP. In
Pedamylavanilanka drda-velugu project directors of AP Gov opened tsunami
boat repairing center with Rs. 8000 subsidy to each boat and the remain
expenses to be by the beneficiary. The amount varies Rs 4000 to 6000
(estimated to Rs. 12000 to 14000 for renovation of the boat). Fishermen
have requested the INF to provide Rs. 4000 either as grant or loan to
cover the balance amount. In addition to fishing nets are also badly
damaged. They requested fishnets from INF. Besides rice distribution, INF
is seriously considering one time grant of Rs. 4000 to cover the balance
they need to get their boats repaired from the AP Govt repair shop.

2. At Cinnamylavanilanka a cyclone rehabilitation bldg constructed
previously away from 2 kms. Now it was very nearer to sea (half km.)
actually it was vacated 2 yrs back i.e during the previous cyclone but the
fishermen used to take food and receiving the captured material from sea
through semi temp huts which were now last and claiming for those huts.
High level fishnets were damaged and they are expecting help from gov and
ngos organizations.

3. Biyyaputippa: 2 yrs back almost inundated n people kept under safe
place but during fishing they used to take food n receive the captured
fish through their temp poor thatched huts that were now fully damaged.
According to locals they need high level fishnets.

4. Deyyalatippa - it was located towards Bvrm Gollavanithippa in Krishna
dist and reported damage to houses.

5. Mangipuudi beach, Masulipatnam visited to day actually 400 families
hailed from Uppada near Kakinada and fishing with 50 to 60 boats. Each
temp boat having 3 pieces i.e one central stud and 2 sides make them as
instant boat in sea before fishing. Due to wave forces they were dashed
with coconut/thatched trees and observed 15 to 18 fully damaged and
remaining can be repairable estimated to Rs 4000 to 5000. In addition to
this they need 20 kg fishing nets of various sizes. These 400 families
received rice etc by 3 organizations and they still need support since
they were in temp shelters since 6th January. They are requesting nets and
boat repair. The fish dept started survey and listed the effected people
yesterday only. INF may consider distributing Nylon material suitable to
all impacted fishermen, identified by the department of fisheries of AP
and Tamil Nadu government
