The Week: "Soft melodies enhance the charm of Parineeta, a film based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic novel of the same name. Love seems to be the perennial emotion that runs through every track, right from Piya bole to Raat hamari toh to Soona man ka aangan and Hui main Parineeta.
Swanand Kirkire’s lyrics are tuned to Shantanu Moitra’s melodies which successfully serve romance, tragedy and innocence. Sung by Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghosal (a Sanjay Leela Bhansali find), K.S. Chitra and Sunidhi Chauhan, all the songs have a similar rhythm that flows from one track to the other. In fact, the lyrics also seem an extension of each other.
While Kasto mazza is a playful track with children providing the chorus, Raat hamari toh is a sad number beautifully rendered by Chitra. Kaisi paheli zindagi is more a retro nightclub track. However, the beats of Dhinak dhinak vaguely remind you of a number, titled the same, from the movie Devdas. But never mind the repetition. Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s movies are known for their trademark hummable numbers. And if you are an incurable romantic, do try this album."
