CIOL : News : IIT Kanpur voted best tech school: Survey: "IIT Kanpur has bagged the honor of being the number one engineering college in the country on the basis of placement, infrastructure, intellectual capital and industry interface.
According to the DQ-IDC-NASSCOM survey of best tech schools in India, IIT-Kanpur is followed by its counterparts in Mumbai, Chennai and Kharagpur among the top 20 in the list of 116 engineering colleges across the country that took part in the survey.
According to the press release, the rest in top 10 include IT BHU, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology and Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology. Some 'perceived' heavyweights like BITS Pilani and DCE have got knocked out of the top 10 list, while IIT Delhi decided not to participate for some internal reasons.
The release further states that placements in these engineering institutes have seen a general upturn with the salary increase of 10 percent to 15 percent over last year. IT majors Like Infosys, Wipro and TCS are the top recruiters and in some colleges they have recruited over 100 students by themselves."

great to know that iit kanpur is at the top of the tech institutes in india .iit's rule .i am afraid it could have been altogether a different scenario if iit delhi would have participated .i am preety much sure that it would have captured the top spot and then followed by the other iit s .surprised to see dce and bits pilani moving out of the top 10 .why is it .please anyone tell
BITS opted out of India Today rankings 2005:
BITS opted out of India Today’s survey of 2005 because of a pending court case between BITS and India Today. This explains why BITS does not figure in the India Today rankings. In 2004 when India Today gave its rankings it did not collect the data from BITS, Pilani even though it mentioned it did so. BITS questioned the validity of the data because there were many factual errors in India Today’s description of BITS. India Today did not accept the errors and hence BITS has gone to the court against India Today and the case is still pending.
It is true that BITS Pilani does not figure in India TOday's Top 10 Engineering colleges. And that is because BITS Pilani opted out of the survey.

can the ranking of the institutes be based on the personal reasons?like wht india today did??
any magazine shud guide ppl in a rite way not misleading its own readers due to the personal conflicts,its not gud to any one.I being a bitsian can not really accept to the view of india today.Inspite of all the latest facilities implanted in the university like the largest LAN NETWORK and fulley facilitated library and a latest entrance method...its shud be ranked gud.
Its surprising that IIT, Roorkee has slipped to such a pathetic and dismal ranking
Surprised to see how can college like BITS PILANI is not featured in the Top Ten List of Engineering Colleges in India...that not possible.
But then here comes into picture the pending courtcase between India Today & BITS PILANI...which is still hanging out in court..let the case be resolved and then u will see BITS at the top.

really i was surprised to see that bits pilani was not included in the top engineering colleges , but i am very satisfied to see the ranking of the colleges.nsit has a good infrastructure and a great placement , so it shdbe at 6th or 7th .
d fact dat BIT Mesra has been rated amongst top 10 colleges by India 2day is infact a SHOCKER..!

what r u guys talking abt . other than iits i dont c any big difference between the colleges that figured in top ten . I am HR in one of the top it compnay and we think the rating are quite fair
hey i agree with proud itian.The only reason that it bhu is not iit is purely political. It is extremely good institute, better than all the crap listed in the india today below the iit's.I dont know why it wasn't there.
Itis astonishing that in spite of having the best inellectual resourses, itbhu is ignored for being in top 5 in the survey of india today.In fact when ever politics is mingled with education is has brought distressful results.
it is not the number of "I"s that decide the quality factor of a college.actually it is an integral part of b.h.u that's why it is facing ignorance of government thus it has financial problem otherwise it may be on the top of india.after a tedious and industrious efforts for qualifying IIT-JEE ,students cuultivates every ability that make them ahead of every other students in other engineering colleges.History is witness BHU has been a premier university amd wellknown for intellectual prosperity and this willcontinue till end
Personally, I'm from BIT Mesra. People come from the best AIEEE ranks. One of 7 Univs 2 have a SUPERCOMP. One of the few colleges 2 get WORLD BANK LOAN of 100 crores!!! People get into TCS but few go because of better offers. Most people get upto 3 placement offers!!! And when u have MICROSOFT & GOOGLE for CS & IT, FREESCALE(MOTOROLA) for ECE, TATA STEEL/MOTORS/POWER for EEE, MECH, ASIAN PAINTS for POLYMER, PRICEWATERHOUSE COOPERS & GOLDMAN SACHS for all the students... its truly gr8. Man also chk out its alumni. You'll be amazed
What the hell is wrong with these rankings? I mean instius like it bhu, bits pilani below anna univ. and mesra. Just interact once with the students of pilani and itbhu...you will know the difference. If any prospective engineer is reading this, I urge you to disregard these rankings and talk to students of various instis. They will give you a clear picture. And the HR heads on this forum, boss..where do you work?Believe me, your company is hirirng all the wrong people with hr heads like you (sorry to say this!). Get an update about the profile of IIT JEE, bits pilani etc.
THe mere fact that IIt delhi and BITS Pilani opted out of these rankings shows that India Today Survey is crap. In fact all surveys are more or crap. What students should be doing is looking at these rankings of many magazines and make there own perception, and it is more important to see your own choice of course and select college on this regard. For eg. IIT Kanpur Aeronautical rocks etc.
Gentlemen! ISM Dhanbad definitely stands better than those bloody BITS group of institutions where students manage to secure entrance by vomiting out the text book.
The students of ISM and IT-BHU are products of IIT-JEE.
thapar really deserves the ranking coz there is almost no ragging here unlike other top most engineering colleges including iit's also it has got its students superb placemens in company's like microsoft ,d shaw etc..............

how come jamia millia islamia is so low in this ranking when a plethora of private institutes are ahead of it despite the fact that
1. the faculty boasts of highly qualified professors with awesome experience,
2. the college has registered exemplary placement figures consistently for the past few years and the graph is rising exponentially in terms of quantity and quality of companies visiting the campus
3. state of the art labs including the Scada lab and the graphics lab which is one of its kind in india speaks a lot about the infrastructure of the faculty
4. speaking of the intellect of students here, we boast of guys who have opted for jamia ahead of DCE, NSIT, NIT's and many other so called "prestigious institutes" ranked ahead of us
5. yes, its true our canteen is not up to the mark but i guess we go to universities to fulfill our appetite for knowledge.........

This is with reference to the quote by Mr.Rahul on "PARAM computing facilities and ragging at top engineering colleges."
Sir,i am not sure how far this assertion holds for other "top" institutes,but as far as BITS,Pilani is concerned,i would advise you to visit the BITS,Pilani campus once before asserting so.
BITS PIlani has a fully fledged and functional PARAM computing lab,that handles data ranging from Fluid Dynamical computations to Meteorological data to Advanced Physics.So please get your facts right.
Besides,as far as Ragging is concerned,i don't deny news from colleges of ragging and suicides,etc.But talking about BITS,Pilani,i would like to state that BITS Pilani has stringent anti-ragging policies,post the Judicial order on the same.Infact,every year,before registering students,the college ensures that each one of them signs an "anti-ragging declaration".So even this point of comparision between BIT Mesra and BITS Pilani,stands invalid.

Well dese rankings realy sucks..they'll keep changing every year.Only students in d college can realise where his/her college has the potential to be placed in comparison to others(provided u know abt other coleges).Surely colleges like BITS,BHU-IT shuld be above this college of ours but rankings in 2001 BIT mersra was placed in top 10 colleges ..and now it's struggling to keep in top 20 and thats simply due to certain factors right frm d intellectual capital to placements.

I agree with khalid. Jamia Millia Islamia does not get its deserved place in these rankings. Last year Microsoft recruited a Computer Engineering student for 17 lacs LPA!! from Jamia. The average placement is on par with the likes of DTU and many NITs. Faculty: top class. Good infrastructure: better than many NITs. Prime location and central university!! At least 80% attendence.is a must for any student=> hardworking students and better results. With fee as low as inr 8950 for 4yrs!!!, i think its mouth watering... AND THESE RANKINGS DON'T MATTER
