Movie Hits & Misses - Music India OnLine: "This Friday, all over there was only one film making the rounds of the movie buffs and it was ‘Salaam Namaste’. The film got a superb opening, once again strengthening the hold of Saif Ali Khan in the box office consecutively after ‘Hum Tum’ and ‘Parineeta’. Yashraj Films this new flick is chic and stylish and has all the ingredients to make the urban and multiplex crowd go gaga over it. The eleventh hour publicity and promotion gave the film strong shoulders and the interest rose with every hour. The huge advance booking made the film absolutely sold out at the weekends. Thus a splendid opening, that surely promises a bright future for the film. The good reviews pouring in are certainly going to make ‘Salaam Namaste’ sail smoothly throughout. Sidharth Raj is the new director in the block and Saif and Preity must be grinning from ear to ear. Tout performances, funny dialogues and an innovative treatment will make the film stick to the theatres for more weeks to come.
Another film that released on 9th September was ‘Topless’. As the name itself suggest, it is another vulgar and sleazy film with nothing much to offer. The film got selective release and director Nabh Kumar Raju neither made any efforts to publicize the film before the media and neither the trade took ant special interest in it.
Among the last week releases ‘Aashiq Banaya Aapne’ has come up being quite a savior as the film is garnering some good business. Good music, Emraan Hashmi and the young theme is helping the movie to go on well. Its box office outcome has come as a quite a surprise for the trade. However ‘Ramji Londonwale’, ‘Pyaar Mein Twist’ and ‘Dansh’ couldn’t cross the average line in business due to the low publicity. Though all the three films had the potential to do well, the low profile of the film marred the fate.
Other releases like ‘No Entry’ is still holding its might and is going superb. The film can be counted now among the biggest hits of the year. Even after its second week of release, the film is appearing strong and flourishing. At the end of two weeks it has done a trade of over 25 crore. With no big banner films other than ‘Salaam Namaste’ releasing in the forthcoming Fridays, ‘No Entry’ is sure to accelerate more bucks. Nagesh Kukunor’s low-budget film ‘Iqbal’ has earned accolades from all over and has safely crossed its second week. It has already collected 2 crores.
The forthcoming releases to watch out for are ‘Chocolate’, ‘James’, ‘Kal - Yesterday And Tomorrow’ and ‘Sau Jhooth Ek Sach - The Uninvited’. With 4 thrillers piled up for release in row, lets wait and watch if the audience and the trade have a thrilling time too!"
