Strike halts Mumbai bus service

Strike halts Mumbai bus service: "Upto 40,000 bus workers in Mumbai have started a strike after wage talks with the Mayor ended without agreement. Employees of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) are demanding higher wages.

There are reports that authorities may impose Essential Services Maintenance Act against them. A large population in Mumbai use the bus services to travel from their homes to connecting railway stations in and around the city.

They now have to rely on taxis and autorikshaws. Many preferred to walk to their destinations as the taxi and autorikshaw fares are prohibitive."
